Facet Injections

Facet Injections for Pain Relief

Facet joints are tiny joints within the spine. They provide stability and work to help guide movement of the spine. Many times joints can be affected by arthritis, causing inflammation and pain during movement of the joint. Back injury and repetitive stress can also cause pain in the facet joints. Many times pain in the joint can feel like tension in the muscles around the spine. Other times it can feel like a severe stabbing pain.

At Health Star Clinic we use a combination of treatment options to bring our patients the highest quality of pain relief. Facet joint injections are outpatient treatments, which diagnose and treat neck, shoulder and back pain. Facet joint injections involve injecting a small amount of anesthetic and steroid to block the facet joint from pain. The facet joint injection reduces inflammation and pain. This allows for patients to perform physical therapy programs with minimal pain in the facet joint. Our facet joint injections paired with physical therapy treatment will helps patients rehabilitate back injuries and return to daily activities.

Pain relief will often begin immediately after the injection. In some cases slight pain may return at the injection sight from needle irritation, but will subside with in a few days. The duration of pain relief from the facet injection is dependent on the severity of the pain condition, but many times pain relief can last from several weeks to several months.
