Once we understand that the word “health” comes from an Old English word meaning “whole,” then health—or the lack of it— takes on new meaning. To be healthy is to be whole, but when we lose our wholeness, we lose our precious health.

Health requires that the thousands upon thousands of bodily parts, organs, glands, muscles, bones, nerves, and other complex tissues work together in coordination and harmony for the whole body’s welfare. It’s when a part or system fails to perform normally and in concert with the other bodily parts and systems that the body’s functional wholeness begins to break up, to fragment. Then health begins to slip away.

HEALTH GOES A PIECE AT A TIME

CHAIN REACTION SETS IN
At any time, about eight of ten persons are losing their health, their wholeness, usually a piece at a time. One person suffers from arm or shoulder pain or reduced range of motion. Another from digestive problems. Another from fatigue. Another from foot or leg problems. Others suffer from back pain, headaches, hip problems, and so on. If uncorrected, one health problem may lead to others in an endless chain reaction of illness, sickness, disease, or physical handicap.

NERVE INTERFERENCE A MAJOR CAUSE
Nerve interference causes many health problems. Normally, the nervous system’s nerve impulses help keep us whole (healthy) by coordinating the bodily functions and, directly or indirectly, tying everything together, making each of us an organism, a living being, rather than just a loose collection of parts.Trouble arises, though, when interference with normal transmission of nerve impulses disrupts the coordination, harmony, and integrity of some of the body’s functions, and thus fragments its wholeness to some extent. This brings on sickness, pain, and other physical problems.

BROAD CHIROPRACTIC SCOPE
That’s where chiropractic comes in. Since nerves go everywhere, chiropractic’s scope is as broad as the nervous system. Chiropractic doctors specialize in finding and correcting nerve interference brought on by misaligned vertebras or other mechanical faults which pinch, irritate, compress or otherwise compromise spinal nerves.

LOOK FOR PINCHED NERVES
The likelihood of nerve interference caused by pinched nerves must always be considered. And by seeing a chiropractic doctor first, rather than last, many people bypass a lot of pain and suffering as they regain their health. Besides that, untold millions keep their health intact—they stay whole— through periodic chiropractic care.
